Nordic Consortium

Buildings account for 40% of global energy consumption and 24% of the world’s greenhouse gases. This is a compelling reason to make buildings more energy efficient. At NLAB Solar, we are working with the smartest people to address this problem. We have established a consortium of experts to work on the collective vision of zero net energy buildings, or buildings which produce as much energy as they consume. This can be achieved through solar energy.

Who are the consortium members?

  • Institute for Surface Chemistry (YKI), Sweden
  • NLAB Solar AB, Sweden
  • Danish Technological Institute (DTI), Denmark
  • Helsinki University of Technology (TKK), Finland
  • Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Spain
  • Fasadglas Bӓcklin AB, Sweden
  • Scheiwiller Svensson Arkitektkontor AB (SSARK), Sweden

What are we working on?

We believe that dye-sensitized solar cells are the most promising technology in building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), due to the possibilities of making them transparent, flexible and lightweight. Hence, we are working on the fundamental properties to bring the technology to fruition.

Our roundtable of experts bring different knowledge and expertise to the consortium so that we can address all the important considerations – efficiency, durability, testing, aesthetic design and integration into building facades, just to name a few.

What can we achieve?

Commercialization of cutting edge dye-sensitized solar cell technology to reduce the environmental impact of buildings in an affordable and sustainable manner.
